Plumbing Tips To Help You in The Holiday Season

Design Element | Countryside Plumbing Sewer Septic

It’s everyone’s favorite time of the year, the time to be jolly and merry. The festivities call for many domestic activities like cooking, cleaning, and so on, making it the worst time to experience a plumbing failure.

You do not want to wake up to a clogged drain, failed pump, or worse, a frozen pipe. So before everything gets in full ride, it is vital to be aware of how to avoid plumbing emergencies this holiday season.

This blog post outlines plumbing guidelines for your household in this period. Read on and get holiday-ready.

Get a Routine Check

If you have had minor plumbing concerns, there’s no better time than now to check it out. You do not want a plumbing problem escalating with guests in your home, so reach out to a plumbing professional today.

Also, if you do not know already, regular plumbing and sewer checks save you time and money. This is because detecting and fixing a problem early is cheaper than having to incur full replacement costs. If you are due for a routine check for your water heater, plumbing, or septic system, contact us today.

Disconnect Your Hose and Exterior Plumbing Lines

If you haven’t, you should disconnect your hose and drain all the water, so it does not freeze and burst. The same goes for your outside faucets. You run the risk of your exterior lines getting frozen and broken, and this can lead to leaks, flooding, and water damage.

Let Garbage Go Where It Belongs

Proper garbage disposal will do you good and prevent plumbing failures like clogged drains. Certain things do not belong in the kitchen drain, and you should remember this as the cooking goes on. Foods, vegetables, oils, egg peels, and such should not go down your drain. Keep an eye out for the grease, too, as it will catch on to everything else that goes in your drain and cause a clog.

Careful With the Water Heater

A broken water heater is a disastrous thing for the holiday season. You will need to ensure that your water heater is serviced, especially if you hear gurgling or knocking sounds when it is on. To prevent incidents, it is best to keep flammables far from your water heater. We also advise our clients not to set the water heater at a temperature higher than the medium range. And if you are hosting the entire family, be sure to space out showers.

The “Toilet Paper Only” Rule

Only toilet paper and waste should go in your toilet. Flushable wipes, food remnants, paper towels, and sanitary products do not belong in the toilet. Instead of risking a clogged toilet, provide a bin for your guests, especially if you’re hosting a party.

Got a Plumbing Emergency?

Sometimes, things get out of hand really fast. If this happens and you encounter a clog, a backed-up septic system, or any of such, we advise that you stay calm and shut off your main valve line. If water accumulates, clean it up, so it does not damage your property.

You can reach out to us at Countryside Plumbing, Sewer, and Septic if you encounter a related emergency this season. We will help with the repair and replacements you need to get your holidays back in full stride. Better still, reach out to us here for a routine check to prevent any emergencies.

Jordan is a great guy who seems to genuinely care about delivering quality work. Not only did he fix the problem quickly and efficiently, but also pointed out that the ejector pump in my basement had installed the wrong kind and that there were some other parts used that are not up to code.

Had a great experience with Countryside.  Called with a fairly urgent issue and Jordan was responsive and out the house fast.  Spent hours diagnosing my problem.  Prices were competitive and he took the time to explain the situation and options.  Highly recommend.

I reached out to Countryside this past June when the pipe from my house to the septic tank broke.  Jordan responded to my call quickly, gave me a very reasonable quote, and immediately fit me into his schedule- which I was extremely thankful for because my yard was getting pretty smelly.  Jordan is an expert in his field.
